I wanted to let you know we really appreciate your timely and generous work on our Chevy van. On two occasions, you guys took care of problems with the tires. The second time involved coming to us and doing the work off premise.
For lower income kids, our van is the only way they get to our program, and its safety is a priority while in though economic times. We struggle along with everyone else. Village autos's support really makes a difference and it means a lot to us.

Dear Russ and Village Auto Care Staff,

We would like to take this opportunity, to express our sincere gratitude, to the expert staff members at Village Auto Care. We wanted to convey how much satisfaction we have with the type of automotive service your staff continues to provide myself and my family. We both have older vehicles that require more attention, your service always helps make our cars continue to run with confidence.

Both Carol and I are very comfortable knowing that when our cars are brought to your center, they will receive professional care and honest reporting of any problems with the vehicles. I especially appreciate the fact that you have stood behind any repairs that have been made if there is a problem your staff was able to rectify the problem with question.

This type of customer care has served to build a great relationship with our, family and Village Auto Care. I would like to especially thank Glenn for his professional courtesy and vast knowledge helping to pinpoint the problem with my 2001 Volkswagen Beetle.

Glenn was always honest and quick to point out the problems, and there were many things wrong with this vehicle. This shows me that Glenn has great knowledge to help alleviate guess work and avoid costly repairs. Once again I want to commend your staff for being reliable and professional community business.

Please feel free to share this memo with all of your staff members after all, it is nice to receive positive feedback once in a while.

Yours Truly,
Ted & Carol K.

Dear Russ,

Modern vehicle electronic control systems “know” and monitor the operating parameters of every component. When the Power train Control Module (PCM) that manages the system sees a signal that is outside normal limits, or fails to see an expected change in a signal, it stores a Diagnostic Trouble Code.

Oil changes can be a messy job. Done by a professional, though, it's one of the smartest things you can do to keep your vehicle running well. Timely oil changes can save you thousands of dollars in the long run, and having them done by us at Village Auto will save you a lot of time and hassle.

How often do you need to change it? That all depends on a few factors including the age of your car, what kind of driving you do, and the overall condition of your engine. Owner manuals recommend anything from every 3,000 to 10,000 miles.

Want to schedule an oil change? Simply call us at (516) 785-7763 and we'll set you up with an appointment. We're conveniently located for people who need automotive repair in Bellmore, Merrick, Wantagh, Seaford, East Meadow, and other parts of Nassau County.

A transmission service is part of your routine maintenance, just like replacing your engine oil. A complete transmission service should include:

  • removing and examining the sump or pan
  • replacing or cleaning the screen or filter
  • cleaning the pan
  • reinstalling the pan with a new pan gasket
  • adding a friction modifier or additive package

When servicing automotive air-conditioning systems, vehicle owners generally have several options to recharge a/c systems with refrigerant. One option is to top-off your car's system with refrigerant, and another is to evacuate and recharge the system. Both of these options will provide cool air in the passenger compartment for some period of time. Neither service, however, involves permanently fixing the a/c system leaks that allowed refrigerant to escape resulting in a lack of cool air. You might therefore also choose to have any leaking components in your a/c system repaired or replaced.

Maintain a safe car with regular exhaust system checks. Factors that affect replacement requirements. The exhaust system routes dangerous exhaust gas from the engine out and away from the car to keep from affecting the occupants. The catalytic converter reduces the level of harmful pollutants in the exhaust. The oxygen sensors mounted in the exhaust system monitor the level of oxygen in the exhaust gases to maintain efficient engine operation and to monitor the converter’s operation.

  • Loud noise
  • Rattling noise when starting, accelerating or braking
  • Rotten egg smell

The steering and suspension systems are key safety-related systems that largely determine your car’s ride and handling. Have these systems checked regularly, at least once a year and usually with a wheel alignment.

  • Car pulls to one side
  • Uneven tire wear
  • Excessive noise, vibration or bouncing
  • Loss of control

The engine is completely dis-assembled. All of the parts are measured with a micrometer. Parts that are out of limits are either machined back within limits or replaced. All bearings on the rotating parts are replaced. Piston rings are replaced. All gaskets and seals are replaced. The valves and valve seats are reconditioned. Any questionable part is replaced.

A complete engine rebuild should include the following

  • New parts

  • Gaskets
  • Piston rings
  • Lifters
  • Camshaft
  • Oil pump
  • Timing chain, gears, belt
  • Connecting rod bearings
  • Main bearings Pistons
  • Valve train components
  • Typical re-machined components

  • Valves
  • Valve seats
  • Connecting rods
  • Crankshaft
  • You might also need

  • New spark plugs
  • New air filter

Your car’s brake system is its most critical safety system and you should check it immediately if you suspect any problems. A properly operating brake system helps ensure safe vehicle control and operation under a wide variety of conditions.

Brakes are a normal wear item for any car and eventually they’re going to need replacement. Avoid letting your brakes get to the “metal-to-metal” point, which usually means expensive rotor or drum replacement. Factors that affect wear include driving habits and quality of brake pads and shoes.

  • Car pulls to one side during braking
  • Pulsating brake pedal or steering wheel shake
  • Brake pedal feels mushy
  • Unusual odor or noise
  • Unusual noise when you step on the brake pedal
  • Repeatedly need to add brake fluid to the master cylinder
  • Brake fluid sprayed onto outside of wheel

You car’s belts and hoses are essential to the cooling, air conditioning and charging systems, and the engine. Don’t take these routine replacement intervals for granted because they can break down and leave you stranded.

  • Squeaking noise from under the hood during start-up or operation
  • Coolant leaks
  • Dashboard light illuminated
  • A/C may fail
  • Engine overheating
  • Smell of burnt rubber

Your car’s starting and charging systems, and the battery, help ensure dependable vehicle operation whenever you drive your car and in all sorts of driving conditions. Make sure to check these systems regularly. Driving habits such as frequent engine on/off cycles will cause more wear on the starter than a simple trip back and forth to work.

Other factors include
  • Driving and weather conditions
  • Mileage
  • Vehicle age
  • Excessive electrical draws like in-vehicle entertainment systems
  • Headlights and interior lights dim
  • Check engine or battery light come on
  • Accessories fail to operate

Your car’s filters are important to the longevity of your car and interior comfort. Maximize your car investment by replacing filters regularly.Filters are normal wear items that require regular checks and replacement.

  • Poor gas mileage
  • Hesitation while accelerating
  • Musty odor in the cabin

Lights and wipers play a major role in safe driving – the chances for accidents increase if you can’t see or be seen. Some states have laws that require the headlights to be on with the wipers. If you detect any problems with your car’s lights or wipers, have them checked out at once.

  • Chattering or streaking wiper
  • Rapid signal blinking
  • Dimming lights
